A Weekend in Sweden's Countryside
Yxtaholms Slott is situated 120km from Stockholm on a lake island in one of Södermanland's most naturally beautiful areas.  The nearest small village, Flen, is 5km away.  Yxtaholms Slott is in a pastoral part of Sweden, a place to which people have come for many years for reflection, spiritual renewal, and celebration.

The castle, stables and wings were built in their present form in 1753 but the first written reference to a residence on the site is in a will from 1329.

Yxtaholms Slott first began to flourish in the 17th century.  Today it is a hotel, restaurant and conference center, updated with modern ammenities in a historic setting, and characterised by personal, thoughtful service and magnificent natural surroundings.

Dining
At Yxtaholms Slott you don't find any traditional à la carte menus.  Instead, the chefs work with fixed menus, uniquely composed each day based on the season and the many meats, cheeses, and produce available from local farms.  If you have special dietary preferences or requests for you or your children, please be sure to inform the chef when you RSVP here on this Web site.  We have asked that the kitchen keep fresh fruit and snacks available all day should hunger urges arise.  Breakfasts start late, but fruit, yogurt, and coffee will be available for early risers starting at 7am.

Yxtaholms Slott was selected for our wedding for several reasons:

- Caroline worked there as a teenager for her "work practicum" while in high school;

- Yxtaholms Slott is in Caroline's home county of "Sodermanland";

- the estate includes a stable of Arabians (appropriate for Caroline's love for horses and since we met horseback riding);

- for an international wedding, with so many of our family and friends meeting for the first time, and many travelers coming from afar to a foreign country--some for the first time--Yxtaholms Slott is an ideal all-in-one setting where everyone can conveniently settle into a comfortable resort and not worry about the hassles of driving from event to event, locating restaurants, churches, receptions, hotels, etc.

Hotel Reservations
Reservations for the hotel are made when you RSVP online.  You can reserve hotel accommodations for Friday night, Saturday night or both Friday and Saturday night.  The lodging rate will be about SEK 1,000-1,200 per adult per night, breakfasts included, kids lodge free of charge). Your rate covers your rooming and a magnificent Swedish breakfast brunch buffet.  Children will be free of charge, and we expect to have some child care available on Saturday evening during and after the wedding dinner.  No credit card is needed now for your reservation when you RSVP; you simply select which nights you'd like reservations for when you RSVP on this Web site.  We will notify everyone of the exact rate arrangements. You will simply check in on your arrival day and settle your bill with the front desk at check-out time.

While at Yxtaholms Slott, the only expenses you likely need to plan for are the hotel lodging (which includes breakfast) and the cash bar (champagne/wine are included at both dinners, cash bars are offered AFTER the dinners on Friday and Saturday nights).
